A few samples fresh of the Jacquard loom , ready to be pulled experimented with

I attended a real thought provoking conference today. Chaired by Professor Rebecca unnecessary this conference introduced me to the concept of circular design .
The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world . Researchers and companies presented the alternative concept of circular design  and suggested that as designers we are responsible for the choice of materials that go into our work.
By choosing materials that can easily be extracted, upcycled and reused we can stop the unnecessary land fill where most textiles end up
Warped up and ready to thread. Once the warp is on , the headphones go on and i can get in the zone and thread up my loom. Happy Days

Samples of madder dyeing with alum and iron oxide mordants
Indigo dyeing some woven shibori samples .
I love Shibori whilst it is still in its compressed state . Its almost a shame to take the stitches out

Ex
Mark making with ink and bleach to create inspiration
for future Shibori textiles . Thinking i might scan these in and have a play on photoshop
and create some designs for scarves that i can digitally print

Having fun with different ways to create patterns using indigo and Shibori
